The museum is located in the Temple and former Convent of Santa Ines founded in 1600 under the patronage of the Marquis de la Cadena. The well-known local artist Jose Luis Cuevas donated the selection of contemporary art housed here, though temporary exhibitions make up most of the work displayed. An immense sculpture by Cuevas towers over the courtyard. The museum includes an arts cinema club.
