Museo Serfin

Madero 33, Colonia Centro, Mexico City, Mexico
Tel: +52 5 6255600

This museum forms part of an 18th century mansion owned by Jose de la Borda, a wealthy albeit ruthless silver miner. For a time it was a post office, and after serving several ends, it came to house the Serfin Museum. The small albeit well-organized space offers an insight into the clothing and textiles used by Mexico's indigenous peoples, many of which are still used today. Items on display include the vibrantly colourful blouses, huipils (an intricate woven tunic), rebozos (a fringed shawl used to ward off the cold or carry a baby), and quetzquemetls (two woven triangles of cloth, joined along one side, that are part of the traditional dress of the South-eastern region).
