The Quinta de Bolivar museum is located inside a beautiful country house. It is situated at the foot of Cerro de Monserrate, with magnificent surrounding gardens. The Colombian Congress donated it to Bolivar, after his return from Peru, in gratitude for his services. After Bolivar's death, the house went on to became a college, a hospital and finally a brewery until the national government decided to convert it into a museum. Its interior decor and furniture are reminiscent of Bolivar's era; the museum is filled with documents, letters, maps, uniforms and personal possessions that help to piece together events in his life.
