Home to many banks and financial institutions, the Financial District is packed with soaring skyscrapers that lend Singapore its distinctive skyline. The most prominent buildings here are the UOB Plaza and OUB Centre (along Boat Quay), both skyrocketing to the maximum permissible height of 280 metres. Nearby at the mouth of the Singapore River is The Fullerton Singapore, exemplifying the Art Deco style that once dominated the district. In the midst of the towering buildings is a thriving food centre, the Lau Pa Sat Festival Market, which occupies the site of the first municipal market in Singapore.
