National Aquarium14th Street, (between Pennsylvania & Constitution avenues NW), Washington, DCTel: (202) 482-2826 • Web: Visit this site » The oldest aquarium in the country has an unlikely home in the basement of the Department of Commerce. The dark concrete space seems to cater to the preferences of the fish with its cool atmosphere. The 70 tanks of various sizes hold many species, including those native to this country. Piranhas, alligators and sea turtles are among the other popular creatures to observe. General Admission: USD5.

“It was terrible and so deceiving! The fish were tiny and not in good surroundings, their "interactive" display is only a little mana ray and he was "resting" at the time, and they have a few sand sharks! TERRIBLE!! When I hear the words "National Aquarium", I expect a "NATIONAL AQUARIUM"- not food tanks for the fisherman's Warf!” 2 of 6 people found this review helpful.

“The aquarium is small but easy to navigate and the collection is diverse. The smaller children especially seem to find it entertaining. The staff was helpful and the alligator feeding was fascinating ” 3 of 3 people found this review helpful.
