KauppahalliHämeenkatu 19, Tampere, FinlandTel: +358 3 3146 6378 Just as its name suggests, Kauppahalli is a hall in which small shops and boutiques are located in corridors very close to one another. The entrepreneurs serve the customer directly over a counter, and the atmosphere in the hall is extremely friendly and helpful. Kauppahalli is famous for its outstanding degree of service and the level of professional knowledge of the shopkeepers. Here you can buy the best fresh meat, fish and vegetables in Tampere. There are also many other shops in Kauppahalli, for example florists, bakeries, health shops and a cafe. It is also worthwhile coming here during a lunch break, because many outlets sell delicious homemade food that is often cheaper than in restaurants and bars in the city centre. Kauppahalli was built in 1901, designed by architect Hjalmar Aberg. Kauppahalli is now a protected building, and it was restored and repaired in 1982. Work is going on right now to build a glass roof to join the City Sokos department store and Kauppahalli market hall together, in order for people to do their shopping without having to go outdoors.
