Kaupungintalo

Pohjoisesplanadi, Helsinki, Finland

The Town Hall, on one side of the main market square, was designed by C.L. Engel in 1833. This gorgeous light-blue building was originally a hotel. In 1913 it was turned into the town hall, and during the Great War the building was a military hospital. In the late 1960s, the building was completely rebuilt apart from the facade.

The Town Hall's beautiful lobby is worth a peek. It has several modern sculptures on display and also plays host to art exhibitions every now and then.
