Formerly known as Calderpark Zoo, this park has always been somewhat neglected because of the existence of bigger zoos in Edinburgh and at Blair Drummond Safari and Leisure Park. Nonetheless, there are lions, tigers and cheetahs right here in the east end of Glasgow so a visit makes a pleasant and fun day out whilst avoiding a long car journey. Visitors can wander round the zoo and check out larger species such as the Asiatic black bears and majestic rhinos, then watch the monkeys at play and meet a snake in the reptile enclosure. There are exciting daily displays involving birds of prey and parrots and everyone has the opportunity to get closer to the animals at the children's farm, where there are guinea-pigs, ducks, Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs, fancy rats, goats, hens and rabbits, all of which are tame enough to handle. Admission for adults is #4, for children #3, and children under 3 years are free.
