This imposing building next to the Belfast Telegraph Newspapers offices on Royal Avenue is made of splendid red sandstone from Scotland and dates from 1890. It houses the central, multi-floored public library for the whole of the Greater Belfast area and is well worth visiting. There is a beautifully domed top floor where you can find Belfast's definitive reference section, as well as impressively stocked music and fine arts departments. The library is always open to visitors.
