Scottish Provident InstitutionDonegall Square West, Belfast, United KingdomTel: +44 28 9024 2115 The Scottish Provident Institution, the interior of which has been converted to shops and offices, spans the west side of Donegall Square and is the sister building to the City Hall. It's worth having a closer look at the magnificent exterior. Inscribed on its facade are testaments to the city's industrial heritage: a Gutenberg printing press, the anchor and hammer of the shipyards, spinning wheels from the linen industry. The building also depicts the colonised peoples who received Belfast goods: an African, an Asian and a Native American peer down from the walls. Good places from which to survey this building are the park in the grounds of the City Hall and, for a higher perspective, the windows of the Linen Hall Library.
