Friedhof Ohlsdorf

Haupteingang: Fuhlsbütteler Straße 756, Ohlsdorf, Hamburg, Germany
Tel: +49 40 593880

The beautiful Ohlsdorf Cemetery covers an area of 400 hectares and is not only Hamburg's biggest park, but also Europe's biggest cemetery. This explains why cars and buses are allowed on the streets and lanes which divide it into different sections. There are numerous celebrities' graves, as well as twelve chapels, three museums and the graves of soldiers from over 20 different nations. The lake and meadows with geese, numerous sculptures and impressive mausoleums make Ohlsdorf Cemetery much more than just a graveyard. One of the museums boasts remarkable old tombstones and a documentary on death and dying in the last 120 years. It is open on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays from 10am-2pm. Admission is free.
