Tempel-SynagogeOberstraße 116-120, Harvestehude, Hamburg, GermanyJewish life in Hamburg focused on the Neustadt district until 1860, when many Jews moved to the Rothenbaum quarter. A new synagogue with a rather plain shape and facade was built there on Oberstrasse at the beginning of the 1930s. In the 1938 pogrom, the synagogue was heavily damaged and it became property of the city of Hamburg. The city had the building changed into a studio for the North German broadcasting company, which has used it for this purpose since 1950.
