Designed and built by architect Fritz Hoger in 1922-24, this is perhaps the finest of Hamburg's traditional warehouses, known as Kontorhauser. It is a perfect example of expressionist architecture, made of clinker brick with a sharp point at one end, reminding you of a ship's helm. The elegant facade, the gothic-style arcades and the intricate ceramic decor in the entrance hall all combine to make this one of Hamburg's most impressive buildings.
