Museum fur Hamburgische Geschichte

Holstenwall 24, Hamburg, Germany

The museum's extensive collection ranges from artefacts dating from the city's foundation in the Middle Ages to visions of the future. The main subjects covered are the harbour, transport and trade, although there are also interesting sections dealing with the constitutional, cultural and social history of the city. The Great Fire of 1842 is documented in an informative and evocative way, as is the virtual ruin of the city during the two world wars. There are numerous models of the city, its churches, railways and ships. The life-size model of the steamer on the second floor is a must. Admission: EUR7.50, concessions: EUR4-6
