Every year in September hundreds of doors and gates are opened throughout Hamburg (as indeed they are all over Europe) to provide access to historic monuments and memorials, which are not normally open to the general public. The Memorials' Open Day is an informative event for all those who are interested in history and culture. Further information as to which memorials are open is provided by the Stiftung fur Denkmalpflege (Foundation for the Preservation of Historic Monuments). Free admission.
