Stockport Air Raid Shelters61 Chestergate, Stockport, Manchester, United KingdomTel: +44 161 474 1940 These shelters consist of a labyrinth of underground passages, cut deep into the soft red sandstone underneath Stockport town centre. They were constructed by Stockport's Air Raid Precautions Committee in 1938 as Britain was preparing for war with Germany and were designed to equip thousands of people with basic amenities during a prolonged bombing campaign.
