Originally a charity school, this distinctive 18th century building is now an art centre that provides numerous facilities. The gallery houses exhibitions, events, adult art classes and a children's art club. The concert hall situated on the first floor stages a varied programme of alternative performances. The bookshop sells new books at unbeatable prices, while the regular second-hand book fair is also worth a visit. A delicious selection of light meals, wine and beers are available from the informal cafe bar. Admission: free.
