Originally a private park, it was later used for scientific research. The Humboldt University's Institute of Biology now cares for the large collection of trees (arbor is the Latin word for tree), as well as the wealth of other plants, bushes and herbs which can be found in the garden. A system of paths and informative signposts guide the visitor through the garden.
