Pembroke CollegeTrumpington Street, Cambridge, United KingdomTel: +44 1223 338100 • Web: Visit this site » Third oldest of the Cambridge colleges, Pembroke was founded in 1347 by Marie de Valence, widow of the Earl of Pembroke. The most notable building in Pembroke is the chapel, completed in 1665. It was the debut commission of architect Christopher Wren, who went on to design St Paul's Cathedral in London. From the chapel, head for the clock tower of the library with its glittering clock. At its foot, there is a statue of William Pitt the Younger who became Prime Minister in 1783 at the age of 24. From here an arch leads to a shady garden, a tangled mass of daffodils in the spring, and northwards to Ivy Court. The college has unpredictable opening hours. Admission: free
