Pilgrimage to Our Lady's Well

Dating back to the Druids, this well has been a sacred place for many centuries. During Penal times (1691-1829), when practice of the Catholic faith was forbidden, holy wells like this one had a particular significance. The faithful came to worship and pray in secret. This holy well is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Although it is visited throughout the year, special pilgrimages are made to it on 15 August each year. To reach the well, walk to the end of Bridge Street, cross the footbridge and turn left. There is a sign by the blue gate.
