Devil's Punch BowlMangerton Mountain Car Park, Killarney, IrelandTel: +353 64 31633 According to legend, Mangerton Mountain was once much higher. Chieftain O'Donogue Ross dined with the Devil here one evening, but the two argued and O'Donogue Ross punched the Devil in the face. Wisely O'Donogue Ross made a hasty retreat. The Devil regained his feet, bit off the top of Mangerton Mountain, and threw it at the departing chieftain. It missed, landing in the lake where it's now known as Devil's Island. Water from the Devil's Punch Bowl is believed to cure childless women if they adhere to a local ritual before downing an icy glass. This is a strenuous walk of ten kilometres, taking about five hours. It circles the Devil's Punch Bowl dam and reaches the crest of Mangerton Mountain. The path is clearly marked throughout.
