Bristol Industrial MuseumPrinces Wharf, Wapping Road, Bristol, United KingdomTel: +44 117 925 1470 • Web: Visit this site » Located on the wharf in a 1940's transit shed this museum celebrates Bristol's industrial past and is a great place both for kids and for those interested in tracing the city's development as a port. Upstairs is a collection of Bristol-made aircraft engines, including a mock-up cockpit of Concorde, plus a printing exhibition and workshop (hands-on sessions are held at weekends). Downstairs are 19th century, Bristol-made road and railway vehicles and outside are the majestic electric and steam cranes, railway wagons (which can occasionally turn into passenger trains pulled by a steam locomotive) and three boats (Mayflower, the oldest surviving steam tug, the fire boat Pyronaut and the John King diesel tug), all in working condition and available for trips. Of particular interest is the exhibition exploring Bristol's involvement in the slave trade - a shameful aspect of the city's past. Admission is free and there's parking behind the museum.
