Written in large letters on the belfry on the top of the Krochhaus are the words Omnia vincit labor. This building was Leipzig's first high-rise structure to be built of steel, yet the main feature of the building is its belfry, which is based upon the clock-tower in Venice. The bells peel every fifteen minutes. The aforementioned phrase is of course Latin and means "work overcomes all".
