Antoniterkirche

Schildergasse 57, Innenstadt, Cologne, Germany
Tel: +49 221 925 8460

The gothic Antoniterkirche is an oasis of peace amidst the bustle of the Schildergasse, Cologne's main shopping street. The church seems more like a chapel but still has three different wings. It was built in 1350-1380 and within its simply-built walls is a real treasure; a cast of the Todesengel (Angel of Death) by Ernst Barlach in the northern side wing. This is the only original casting of Barlach's work still in existence, and has been on display in the late gothic Antoniterkirche since 1952. Its facial features are the works of the famous artist Kathe Kollwitz, whose art can also be seen in Cologne.
