Giardino pensile di via San Michele

This was the last garden to be restored by the city after years of neglect. The park in Via San Michele that joins the old part of the city and San Giusto hill is one of the most important natural spaces of Trieste in its position in one of the main historical and cultural areas.

The park is also appreciated abroad by people who work in the public parks' sector. It is split into two areas which were created in 1953/54 by a co-operative formed to create work for unemployed youths. Abandoned for 20 years and severely run down, it has now become a favourite meeting place for Triestini.

It can be reached from below in Via San Michele or from above in the lovely street that leads to the cathedral of San Giusto. There are childrens' swings, open spaces, a fountain and an attractive atmosphere that makes this area more than just a garden.
