Couvent des UrsulinesRue de l'Université, Montpellier, FranceTel: 33 4 67 60 06 70 Established in 1641 on the grounds of St Catherine's convent, the Ursuline Convent was particularly renowned for the education of young ladies. Later, the convent was replaced by a women's detention centre. For several years the building has been used as a choreography centre and a concert venue. Next to the convent, at the bottom of the Rue de l'Universite, the Porte de la Blanquerrie was erected in 1785 on the site of the ancient 14th century gateway to the walled city. Its name is derived from the word blanquierres meaning "tanneries" as these once lined the nearby Quai du Verdanson. Admission:
