Ujima Theatre Company545 Elmwood Avenue, (At Anderson Place), Buffalo, NYNamed after the Swahili word for "collective work and responsibility," this is the only theater company in Western New York which concentrates on works by African-American and Third World playwrights and artists. On Elmwood, the multi-award-winning company has been producing provocative drama since its founding in 1978. Recent productions, which mix Afro-Caribbean folklore, and African-American literature, song and dance, include: The Colored Museum, Robert Johnson: Trick The Devil, and Yalla Bitch! The season runs from September to May. Tickets $18 (regular); $14 (senior and student); $10 Thursday Special.
