Hospital de la Santa Creu

Carme, 47, Barcelona, Spain
Web: Visit this site »

Work was begun on this hospital in 1401, during the reign of Martin I (the Humane). It had four blocks surrounding the cloister, which can still be seen between Carrer Carme and Carrer Hospital. Walking towards the cloister you pass the 17th-century Casa de Convalecencia (Convalescence Home) and the 18th-century Academia de Cirugia (Academy of Surgery). There's still a lot going on here, for nowadays the building houses the Catalan Women's Institute, the Institute of Catalan Studies, Sant Pau City Library, the Library of Catalunya and the Massana Art School.
