Union Station30 West Pershing Road, Kansas City, MOTel: (816) 460-2020 • Web: Visit this site » Constructed in 1914, the station was the third largest train hub in the country, right behind New York's Grand Central and Pennsylvania stations. It was abandoned in 1983 when the city ceased maintantance. Efforts to restore the structure began in 1994, and in 1999, the city celebrated its grand re-opening. Now, with its grandiose high ceilings, arched windows, magnificent clock, exciting touring exhibitions and Science City museum, it is a popular attraction. Visitors can browse through shops or eat at one of the many fine restaurants while enjoying a part of the city's past. Admission is free.
