Two soaring canopies give this 40,000-seat sports venue the look of a giant clam-shell set into the green valley of So Kon Po. Completed in 1994, the construction was paid for by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, as a present to the community. Home to the Rugby Sevens and the Viceroy Cup, the stadium has been plagued by controversy since its opening. Nearby residents complained about noise levels, especially during pop-concerts, leading to proposals that audiences should listen to live concerts on headphones and wear gloves to deaden the applause. No pop concerts have been held here since!
