Fallen Leaf Campground
Aug 21, 2008 by Tina from Camino CA
Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • Beautiful, close to many activities such as beaches, biking, hiking, kayaking, etc.
  • It's also a first come first serve facility.

“I would have given this campground a higher rating if it wasn't for their messed up reservations system. When we arrived at the "check-in" time, most of the campground was already full, making it very challenging to find a campsite to fit our 25' trailer and even worse for our friends to find a spot for their 31' trailer. Some of the roads in the campground are narrow making it difficult to maneuver the trailers around in search of a campsite. Perhaps the front gate needs to inform those with trailers where sites are available that will accommodate the various sizes so we don't spend a 1/2 hour and a 1/4 tank of fuel looking for a spot. Other than that, the campground was very beautiful, had clean bathrooms and showers (the few there were), and is relatively quiet at night, except for the occasional camper yelling and clanging pans to scare off the local bears (yes, they do visit so be aware)!”

Tahoe Valley Campground
Aug 2, 2008 by Lacy from Diamond Bar, CA
Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • We really liked the activities to help keep the kids entertained.
  • The store is practically empty.

“The Campground is perfect for people who like it to feel a little rustic and campy and provide things to do for the family. It's close to everything you might like to do. Shopping, movies, lake, casinos, etc. There are plenty of trees so it still feels like your away from home when you return to your camp. Don't expect shiny five star amenities. The camp provides request, balls, ping pong paddles and basketballs for you to use. We liked the outdoor beaten ping pong table set amidst the trees. Again, I don't want to feel like I'm staying at a pristine hotel. The two families in our group had a great time. The camp has plenty of kids and dogs, so expect family oriented. The store is not stocked well at all, but a grocery store is very near. I was really afraid it might be a dump, but upon arriving, I enjoyed the camp. Sites are very close, but everyone had room to extend their trailer slide outs without getting crushed. We needed to stay an extra night and the camp was very willing to accommodate our needs. As soon as you check out, the clean-up crew comes and cleans the sight up for the next camper.”

Fallen Leaf Campground
May 31, 2008 by Darlene from Folsom
Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • Great campground for riding bikes, convenience and setting!
  • Only open Memorial Day weekend through the end of Sept.

“This is a great campground for families. There are no RV hookups, so you need to be self-contained. But the campground showers are hot and the bathrooms are clean. Campsites range from 20' to 99'. This campground is conveniently located just off of Emerald Bay Hwy and is near Fallen Leaf Lake which is beautiful! Emerald Bay and the overlook to it are just up the road about 4 miles. The lake Tahoe Basin, visitors center is across the street. The stream experience there, at the visitors center, is really neat as it lets you walk under Taylor Creek and see the fish swim and how a stream works. Camp Richardson is nearby and the very popular ice cream parlor is always busy! You can rent bikes and boats at Camp Richardson as well. The staff at Fallen Leaf Lake were very friendly and helpful, always keeping the camp clean and making sure people stick to the 10:00 curfew. I'd recommend this campground to anyone.”

Barton Memorial Hospital
Mar 7, 2008 by dennis from bishop
Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1

  • Leaving the hospital.
  • Noncaring attitude by ER personnel .

“Our son lives in Tahoe and has health issues and the ER in the hospital is terrible. So we've been hearing from him for years about how bad it is. Then I had the 'misfortune' of finding out firsthand. My wife had a few gallbladder attacks the previous month and was scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks. When we went to Tahoe to visit our family, I had to take my wife in to the ER because of a Gallbladder attack. They had her sit in the waiting room for almost a hour before getting her back in to see someone, she was screaming in pain, and she has a high threshold for pain. She had to wait to sign in while another person, that did come in before her with a broken finger while he was outside smoking a cigarette. After finally getting her into the ER to be examined, they didn't give her pain meds for another hour. The doctors there in Tahoe could not decide exactly what was wrong and I kept telling them it was her gallbladder. I called our doctor at home and he said to get her back to Bishop immediately, so I took her out against doctors advice. It's a good thing I did, because when we got home and to our hospital they said it was pretty serious. her gallbladder was so inflamed they had to giver her antibiotics before taking it out the next day. If we would have stayed at Barton, who knows what would have happened. Do not go there unless there is no other choice.”
