Sant'Ambrogio
May 3, 2007 by Jackie from Lochawe
Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8

  • San imbroglio was welcoming and inspiring. The area is delightful.
  • Occasional beggar outside the church.

“San imbroglio is a delightful and well-attended church, with the advantage of being off the tourist route, yet in a central and popular part of the city, in its own piazza with a fashionable cafe, newsstand, come-and-go clothes, bric-a-brac, and flower stalls, and a block away from the Mercado san imbroglio with its fish, meat, and cheese stalls in the covered area, and cheap, good quality, fruit, vet, and flower market (as well as clothes and shoes) outside. The church has old frescoes, some paintings which need cleaning, and a good renaissance altar. The week we were in Florence (late April 2007) there was a festival to the Madonna of Fatima, and there were special masses and rosaries. The campanile resounds between 5 and 6 pm as people wend their way home from school and work, calling them to vespers and mass. Just across the piazza a street of great restaurants proceeds through to the market area. Recommended area for everything, including the church.”
